Fancy trying your hand at writing, producing and directing a short film?

MasterCard and Raindance have teamed up to create a ground breaking short film competition around The Big Lunch.

The Big Lunch - brought to you by Cornwall’s Eden Project and MasterCard - promises to turn every street in the UK into a party on July 19th, and to turn every neighbour into a possible new best friend!

Coming together, community and having fun is what it’s all about. Help make it happen, and maybe win a prize into the bargain! Two cash prizes worth £1000 each are waiting to be won! Even if this is the first time you have picked up a video camera, this competition is open to absolutely everyone in the UK.

What should the film be about?

The competition is to celebrate and highlight The Big Lunch and we are looking for films which capture the essence of what The Big Lunch is about. The competition will be for each entrant to produce his or her own interpretation of the MasterCard ad for The Big Lunch. Each film must be less than 60 seconds in length.

We’ve provided some ideas to help you get going in our Tips section. The brief for the film entries and submission requirements can be found here.

What is The Big Lunch?

It's a party in your street, in everyone's street. On 19th July they’re asking the people of Britain to stop what they're doing and sit down to lunch together.

Research has shown that now more than ever, people perceive their local areas as fragmented and impersonal. Whereas communities used to be intimate and caring, people now scurry head-down from their houses, avoiding conversation and remaining largely anonymous. Yet it is becoming apparent that despite this trend, people genuinely desire more interaction with their neighbours.

The Big Lunch is a national event designed to do just this. On Sunday the 19th of July, every single person in the UK will be encouraged to decorate their street, prepare a meal, go outside and interact. It is hoped that The Big Lunch will lay the foundations for long-term intimacy between the people of Britain, as well creating a positive event in the British calendar.
