14th Moët British Independent Film Award Nominations Announced!
Actress Helen McCrory announced today at St. Martins Lane Hotel the nominations and jury members for the 14th annual Moët British Independent Film Awards! Among the vast line up of talented cast members and directors are Mia Wasikowska for her performance in Jane Eyre, Brendan Gleeson for Best Actor in The Guard, and Joe Cornish for his direction on the debut film, Attack the Block.
The awards, which will be held on 4th December 2011, were created in 1998 by Raindance Film Festival, and Raindance.tv founder, Elliot Grove. Aiming to celebrate truly independent films, honour new talent, and continue to promote British filmmaking to a wider public, the films and talent nominated will be judged by notable persons in the film industry including director Josh Appignanesi, and casting director Lucy Bevan.
In addition to the numerous awards typically celebrating cast and crew members, BIFA grants the Raindance Award to a special filmmaker who showed exceptional achievement when working with little or no industry support. This year's nominations include the films Acts of Godfrey, Black Pond, Hollow, Leaving Baghdad, and A Thousand Kisses Deep, all which had their UK premiere at the Raindance Film Festival last month. Last year's BIFA pick for Best Film, Actor, Supporting Actor, and Supporting Actress, The King's Speech, went on to win Best Picture at the Academy Awards. Notable talent, such as actress Carey Mulligan and Gareth Edwards, have also been nominated for awards in recent years.
For the first time this year, the BIFAs will be streamed live on the Internet at LoveFilm.com, which will include red carpet arrivals and the ceremony. To see a full list of nominations, please visit the at BIFA website!
