Interview with Kota Yoshida, director of "Youth H2: Come As You Are"

Yoshida's film, "Come As You Are" is a story about a young Japanese man in search of a cure to a common, and often looked down upon, sexual disorder. Audiences should expect to be hurdled through a range of emotions as they watch the main character, Harou, struggle to overcome his problems with the help of his female roommate, Non. This is the second time Yoshida has visited the Raindance Film Festival.

Anna: Can you tell us what your film is about?

Kota: Haruo Yasuoka is an actor working in a rental DVD shop to earn a living. When the beautiful Momose starts working there, Haruo is confronted by his attraction to her, although his strict eductation enables him to do anything about it. Haruo has a sexual disorder called premature ejaculation, which is a common disorder in Japan. When Haruo asks his roommate, Non, to help him with his problem, her passion for him brings her to accept the proposition.

A: What was your inspiration behind the film?

K: From my experience. Unfortunatelly, I have P.E. When I tried to fix my P.E, I knew that it could not be fixed alone. You need to get someone’s help. I thought that was great idea for me to make the script.

A: What can audiences expect from the film?

K: Laughing, impressing, excitement.

A: What was the most challenging part of making the film?

K: That is a part which a girl is trying to fix man’s P.E.

A: What are your ambitions for this film?

K: I wanted to express that a man who becomes aware of realizing he has nothing.
If audiences notice that it is not only for a special man but also could relate to everyone, I’m so glad.

A: Are you already working on your next project?

K: Yes. Next story is for a girl who tried to be naked instead of her sister. It would be a comedy, and human drama.
