My Account of The Big Lunch Short Film Competition Awards Party
Perfect rows of red and white wine, Stella Artois, diet coke, sparkling water and bowls of colorful assortments of hors d'oeuvres decorated the table flawlessly at The Big Lunch Short Film Competition award ceremony. Red and yellow balloons in every corner and MasterCard promotions for The Big Lunch completed the look.
When I, the newest member of the Raindance team—a mere intern, entered the lavish room at McCann-Erickson an inviting feeling overwhelmed me. As the filmmakers and friends steadily entered the room, it began to fill with chatter and laughter. Everyone's face, full of excitement, read like a book... 'will I win?' And after a enjoyable meet-and-greet, everyone sat in anticipation while watching the 13 final entries on the flat screen televisions in the front of the room. Their eyes were glued. Looking around the room, it was obvious as to which person directed which film—the subtle nudges and glances from friends gave it away.
As the films concluded, Elliot Grove, Raindance founder, followed by MasterCard's VP of marketing in the UK and Ireland, Ben Rhodes, took center front with two golden envelope and big checks for £1,000. Who would it be? The eagerness came to an end with the announcement of the winners... Trevor Hardy was awarded 'Best Film' for 'Let's Lunch' and the YouTube winner for most views went to Stephen Gallacher's 'The Green.' They surely ventured home happy!

With a quick photo op, the awards session concluded. However, the party was far from over. As the alcohol began to dwindle, the buzz in the air was an after party. Nearly the entire party joined for after awards drinks at a pub across the street into late hours of the night. The mixture of people provided for diverse company and interesting conversations. The party failed to weaken until the general consensus was “I have to get up for work tomorrow” and slowly people began to filter out. But those were the weak ones. A few, dedicated party goers (myself included) moved the party to a new location—The Hospital Club. As the clock struck 3, the management politely led us to the doors. Is work always this fun? I'm hoping so.
The night, all in all, was a complete hit!
