Partying at the 2009 British Independent Film Awards

Approaching ‘The Brewery’ I began to get a bit panicked... Where is my ticket? The huge, intimidating guards at the door didn’t help. As I rummaged through my bag and wallet, I finally found it hidden amongst receipts. Whew.

Walking down the red carpet wasn’t quite as glamorous when you’re just a 21-year-old American intern – no flashing lights or screaming fans. The carpet did, however, evoke a luxurious air with the shining lights and backdrop of BIFA set up flawlessly for photos. I reached the end of the carpet, took a quick glance back and entered the after party.

With the awards not concluded yet, all the party goers commenced in a room to watch the remanding awards and enjoy the free drinks. Sipping white wine and scoping out potential celebrities, the first part of the evening flew by in a blink of an eye.

After what seemed like minutes, the large room began to clear out. Not really knowing what was going on, we followed the crowd. The awards had let out and the entrance was filled with beautiful people. Almost immediately I spotted Jim Sturgess. Woah! In an attempt to not look like a total celebrity-crazed American, I refrained from asking for a photo with him. Seeing him several times throughout the night was a bit of a challenge to not take a photo; I did it though. I guess I’ll have to just re-watch ‘Across The Universe.’

As the clock struck midnight, in fear of the tubes closing and being forced to take the dreaded night bus, I began the trek back to my flat. Sitting on the tube, eating my chocolate bar out of the goodie bag, I couldn’t help but thinking life couldn’t get much better than spending four months in London and having the chance to intern with a company where I get to be a part of things like BIFA and the Raindance Film Festival. I’m not ready to go yet!

Miss out on the awards? Be sure to check out the winners!

Great idea! I like the party night. This type of award encourage artists. Moreover, general people can aware about the industry. Keep it up.
