Internal Thoughts of an Intern
Oh! The joys of Raindance.TV!
Before becoming an intern at Raindance.TV, I knew little to nothing about the film industry. As a matter of fact, I really only knew how to watch a film. I came here to improve my marketing techniques and learn about the industry, and with today being my last day, I am able to say that I came out learning loads more than I expected. Other than the technical aspects of working here, these points below summarize some of my favorite things I learned:
• You don’t have to be a millionaire to make a great, good quality film
From getting a sneak peek into the Lo-to-No budget filmmaking class, there is no need for expensive lights or cameras; you can, if you wanted, shoot a film off your mobile phone. A script is really all you need to get started and a quality film can be made, according to Elliot, for under $200.
• Social Networks are an easy way to get the word out
Twitter, Facebook, Bebo—you name it, all of these networks are marketing havens right at your fingertips. And best of all, they’re free! All you need to do is get followers or fans and send out updates to promote whatever your company is doing. It’s great and today, almost everyone is connected through one of these networks so it’s just a matter of doing your part and spreading the word.
• Short films are probably the greatest invention of all time
Whenever I have had down time as an intern, I almost always resort to watching the shorts on Raindance.tv—they are AMAZING! It also helps that on Raindance.tv there are a plethora of films from all types of genres (and the website is so easy to use—you can filter what you want to see). In a perfect world, I would sit at my desk all day and watch shorts.
And last but of course not least……
• Raindance.TV is awesome
I don’t even know if I need to go in depth about this last bullet point, it’s pretty self explanatory. It’s everything someone who is interested in filmmaking needs, videos upon videos of perfection! And if that isn’t enough, you can venture on over to Raindance.co.uk and discover other tips to becoming a filmmaking/producing/directing/writing genius! So, if you haven’t had a chance yet, check out the sites and get comfortable because you may, scratch that, WILL spend hours enjoying yourselves!
